Multi-Source Charging

RHINO – Multi-Source Charging Calculator

Use this tool to estimate how long it takes to charge the RHINO battery pack from different sources – onboard generator, home / depot AC, and DC fast charging – for a chosen state-of-charge window.

This calculator is aimed at fleets and planners who want to compare real-world turnaround times and plan charging strategies for RHINO operations.

What this calculator helps you answer

  • How long it takes to charge the pack from X% to Y% using:
    • the onboard generator alone,
    • a typical home or depot AC charger,
    • and DC fast charging (where available).
  • How charging time changes with pack size and SoC window.
  • How different power levels (kW) affect turnaround time for fleets.

How to use it

  1. Enter the RHINO battery pack size in kWh (for example, 48–96 kWh range depending on configuration).
  2. Set the start and target SoC (for example, 20% → 80%).
  3. Enter the available power for each source (generator kW, AC kW, DC fast kW).
  4. Compare the resulting charge times to plan depot, route, or overnight charging strategies.

For simplicity, this model assumes constant charging power – real vehicles may taper at high SoC or limit generator output under certain conditions.

Multi-Source Charging Time Calculator

Compare charge time from generator and different charger types for the same battery pack and SoC window. Includes pack C-rate limit.

Inputs

Set the battery size, SoC window, efficiency and max C-rate, then enter power for each source.

Battery pack
Pack max charge power = C-rate × capacity (e.g. 5C × 60 kWh = 300 kW).
Charging sources (power at plug)
E.g. RHINO range extender generator.
Range 1.3 to 2.4KW @120VAC.
Range 3.3 to 19.2KW @205 to 240VAC.
Range 25 to 350KW @400 to 900VDC.

Results

Energy added to battery: 0.0 kWh
Pack max charge power (C-limit): 0.0 kW
Source Power at plug (kW) Into battery (kW) Time (h) Time (h:mm)
Generator 0.0 0.0 0.00 0 h 0 min
Type 1 0.0 0.0 0.00 0 h 0 min
Type 2 0.0 0.0 0.00 0 h 0 min
Type 3 0.0 0.0 0.00 0 h 0 min
Charge time is limited by both source power and pack C-rate. If a charger is more powerful than the pack C-limit, the pack limit dominates.
